Oatmeal Cookies

 
 

 

 
 

1 cup shortening (lard or butter)
1 cup sugar
3 eggs or 1 will do
4 tablespoons milk or water
3/4 teaspoon soda
1 teasp cinnamon
1 teasp nutmeg
1/2 teasp salt
2 cups oatmeal
1 cup raisins
2 cups flour
1 cup nuts

Sift salt, soda & spices into flour in order & drop on buttered tins.

Aunt Pit wasn't big on the details. If she missed a few, here are basic directions for cookies.

Heat oven to 375º
Cream butter and sugar.
Add the eggs, milk and vanilla; mix well.
Combine the flour, baking powder and salt;
gradually add to creamed mixture.
Put slices or rounded tablespoons 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until light brown.
